Knitting Olympics part I

As my Knitting Olympics project, I originally chose Lyra (finally). But when I went to Lacis to pick up the thread, I couldn't figure out how much I needed (since I decided to do it with 100 thread).

Anyway, I have been meaning to do Hyrna Herborgar, so that's what I did. I did a little head scratching with one part (not the part that everyone else had), but other than that, it was a easy knit. I now understand why folks knit several of these. Easy and it looks amazing--kinda like swallowtail. I can totally see knitting 1 or 3 more of these...

Stitches West recap

Hello! Back from Stitches West 2008.

First of all to Ravelry folks, Casey and Jess are lovely. Absolutely lovely! We got there relatively early and one of the girls working there was already saying they were running out of Hello buttons! oy! And she wanted to ration them out...that's just wrong. Anyway, got to say hello to Jess and Casey. If you go, you have to go check out their Ravelry poster...it Rocks!


Yes, yes, here's what I got there:


The funny part is that I almost got out of there without buying yarn. WTF?! But I succumbed to the JoJoLand that you see at the top of the picture. What else? I got a Bob pin (because I just had to), I got a 'where your stitches at' button, the cute shirt in an xl (they run really small, I promise). Gratis were the Hello pin and the passport (which I finished). That little ball of yarn is Malibrigo sample.

I saw lots of people w/ Ravelry pins and I had a Cheryl Oberle sighting and a Cookie A sighting too. But the best part (for me) was the Yarn Place display, where I was able to check out fleegle's Black Widow and her Lyra. AND Lacefreak's sampler stole. Okay, amazing work. Absolutely beautiful!

I drove down with a Ravelry friend (Jellyfish) and met up with another friend when we got down there. Hey, I just realized that we didn't eat or drink. We just shopped.

I'm very happy with my little purchase. I think I'm going to use it for a spirally stole...we'll see.

L is for Library

Took A to the library this last weekend and met fellow knitter Renaissance Woman for a bit of knitting. I was hoping that A would decide to fall asleep on the way there, or at least while there, but no go. I did manage to get in about an hour of knitting (mostly untangling) on my take-around project (top down cardi).

It was very pleasant to sit and knit and chat a bit. I hope to be able to make it on a more regular basis. Not that I need more knit nights...On our island, there is now Monday night at Julie's (I go to), Tuesday night at Xtown, Thursday night Alameda Yarn Co., Friday night craft night at Julies, and now Sunday afternoons at the library. I only go to one knitting group a week, but I might make that 2 a week if Sundays continues.

Oh, the group is set up by Renaissance Woman on Ravelry.

Guess what...

I'm in! And upon much thought and pondering, I've decided my Ravelry name will be: Tinker

As in, I'm tinking. Get it? I was going to keep z's momma, but with A too, that is also floating around...zanda's momma. Then I decided that too much of my identity is to do with the kids, and knitting (altho' for the kids mostly) is something I do for me.

I was going to be really geeky and use EcoRI or my fave, Ecl136II, but the warning from Ravelry was that this will be your moniker, and you are stuck with it...and who wants to be called a restriction enzyme?!

btw, I love love love ravelry. Hope everyone gets in soon.
