While you were sleeping

I should have been working on several projects that I started, but instead, I picked this little ditty up, and could not stop.

This is #21 Table top by Herbert Niebling from Anna.linen niebling 488

Specs:
pattern: Anna magazine
yarn: green lace weight linen
needle: US1 circs from Knitpicks and US1dpns
time: 9/2/07-9/13/07
blocked: 9/14/07

modifications/comments:
I think there might be errors in the chart at the end of the knit. I kept screwing up and not having enough stitches to k2tog and what have you. So, mine is wonky. And if you look closely the last bits don't quite match the flower. So, whether I managed to not read the pattern correctly, or there are errors in this Niebling, it doesn't really matter. 'Cause I like it. I really like it.

I'm not too concerned about pinning out the points perfectly because it's linen, it's pretty drapey and I don't think those points will hold. (this was my observation from making a book marker from the same yarn).

I will likely knit this pattern again. It was fun.

I'm really glad I did this before starting a large project because I was introduced to double yarnovers, knit 5 into one stitch and knit 5 stitches to become one stitch. Oh, and given all the mistakes that happened, I think it turned out pretty nicely.

Must get back to spino and blanket and decide on yarn for campanile. Altho' I might tag along w/ some of the folks now knitting Lyra...decisions...

Wow. I can't decide which is prettier, this one or the last one. I guess it's good that I don't have to choose!

THAT is beautiful. I am busy doing a friggin tablecloth that has taken me longer than anything I have knitted before.

Gooood job!

Beautiful! That Niebling was a genius.

Come on - cast on the Lyra. You know you want to!!!! I'm loving it - very addictive.

This one is also fabulous...and I can't see any mistakes, so it's probably perfect!

Wow, you very talented lady! I'm so in awe of your lace! *covet covet* Where do the patterns come from (excuse my ignorance here)? Now that I think I could knit one but I'd love to have one for when I eventually might tackle it! They look amazing!

Sorry that was meant to say NOT that I think I could knit one!

chemgrrl-- thanks. Now, I just have to finish spino and wicked

Janis, I made a wee doily while you're working on an heirloom piece. Big difference.

diane, soo and fleegle--thanks for the encouragement. I think I will tackle Lyra next. Or at the same time as Campanile. I will have to get another metal thingy to put the chart on.

viknits-lace is easy, colorwork is hard. And Nieblings have a resting round where you knit a round.

This pattern is from a old copy of Anna magazine. It's seriously a competitive sport trying to bid for these patterns on EBAY. They are quite coveted (and can be expensive). If you've got an older relative that subscribed to Anna (80's-07), be nice to them and ask them for the whole stack. Won't put you through uni, but worth lots of yarn.

Came by to say 'Wahey' to your commitment to join the Lyra club!

And - heh - you don't have to old to have subscribed to Anna in the 80's. :) (not that I did -- but I could have!)

Wow, that's lovely. As are the others. This is new to me, this doily knitting thing, but I've recently acquired some nice lace weight linen and have been wondering what to do with it. Hmmm.

What's linen like for lace? I've so far only used merino, lambswool and alpaca. I wonder if my Mum has any Anna mag's, will have to ask her, I'd love to have a peek at a Niebling pattern! Either that or ebay... (which I'm addicted to!)
